About the Community

Overview

Hampton Cove is a beautifully landscaped, established community situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. This planned community of more than 2,000 homes features many serene public spaces, from the waterfall at the main entry, to the walking trails around many of the lakes, to the multiple parks and playgrounds. Each of the 20 neighborhoods offers different living options ranging from 8,000-square-foot estate luxury homes, to 3,500-square-foot family homes to 2,000 -square-foot patio and townhomes. In and around the 2,800 acres of Hampton Cove, you will find three Robert Trent Jones Golf Trails, the Hampton House, 10 lakes and ponds, several parks, the Hays Nature Preserve and more than 20 miles of continuous sidewalks.

Being a well-established community, residents avoid living through a construction zone community dependent on developers to complete the community as planned and in a timely manner. Hampton Cove is fully developed and features more amenities than most new construction communities plan to offer.

The source of the iconic waterfall at the entrance to Hampton Cove, this fieldstone springhouse is perched at the top of the hill among lush landscaping. The HCOA has taken care to maintain this gem, as well as the waterfall and the landscaping that surrounds this picturesque scene

History

Development of Hampton Cove began in 1992 when mostly farmland and county roads covered the area. Planned around the construction of a Robert Trent Jones golf facility and multiple lakes, its members-only recreation center boasted what was, at the time, the largest pool in the state. Soon after the first families settled in, the Publix shopping center was constructed, and other commercial developments were in the works. In 1996, Hampton Cove Elementary School welcomed its first students, with Hampton Cove Middle School following in 2003. More neighborhoods were developed as the years went by, and the last addition of the 20 original planned neighborhoods is still growing today.

Golf Course

Built on 630 prime acres, the Hampton Cove Golf Course is surrounded by tall oak, pine and maple trees, with majestic green mountains and meandering lakes providing some of the most attractive golf scenery in Alabama. Designed by golf architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., the 54-hole championship golf course offers options for golfers at any skill level with up to five separate tees per hole. All greens are to USGA specifications with Pencross Bent grass on the Highlands Course and Short Course and Tift Dwarf Bermuda on the River Course. A practice range is offered, and instruction is also available.

The clubhouse at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course features a specially designed pro shop, dining room, bar and meeting rooms with a panoramic view of Hampton Cove. The full-service restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and after-hours meals, and catering is available for special functions. The rear veranda includes a full wet bar and an outdoor grill.

Visible from Hampton Cove Way, the fifth hole of the Highlands course features an old mule barn up by the green. This reminder of the area’s rural history is one of the most recognizable landmarks on the RTJ Trail.
